GWR launch new Intercity Express jigsaw
31st October 2018
Great Western Railway (GWR) has launched an all new jigsaw puzzle featuring the new Intercity Express train. The image in the jigsaw depicts the train crossing Isambard Kingdom Brunel's iconic Royal Albert Bridge which spans the River Tamar.
Jigsaws are an historic tradition on the Great Western Railway and the first ones appeared in the early 1920s. Created by Chad Valley, the first featured 'Caerphilly Castle' and was sold at the British Empire Exhibition in 1924. They would then go on to be a popular item for sale at station bookstalls.
The image was captured by Ron Westwater from Plymouth on the Cornwall side of the bridge at Saltash. Ron said: “I’m thrilled to see the photograph I took of the new GWR Intercity Express Train crossing the Royal Albert Bridge being used for this new jigsaw puzzle. It’s a real honour.”
Historic board game manufacturer Waddingtons have produced the puzzle in partnership with GWR, reigniting a long standing partnership between the two companies. The 1000 piece puzzle is priced at £15.00 and can be purchased by clicking here.
