Inter-city125 - The Need for Speed

Inter-City 125 was one of British Rail's greatest successes. The travelling public was enthralled by its great looks, the power and the speed. The marketing men had a field day, with phrases like 'the Journey Shrinker' and passenger traffic increased on all the routes the 125 was introduced on. This programme explores the world of the HST throughout the network from the 1970s through to the early 1990s. It then brings the story up to date with a look at the new liveries and workings in the era of privatisation.
