Storage Hunter Simulator was developed by Raccoons Studio and published by astragon Entertainment (with cooperation from BeardedBrothers.Games). The game first became available via Early Access on 10 October 2024. In November 2025 the game reached version 1.0, marking its full release.

The core concept of Storage Hunter Simulator puts players in the role of bidders at storage auctions — garages, shipping containers, or storage rooms — competing to buy abandoned storage units that may hide treasures or trash. Once you win a unit, you inspect its contents, appraise items (sometimes with external experts), and decide what to sell, what to scrap, and which items might be hidden gems. As you earn money, you can expand your business by opening a pawnshop, hiring employees, upgrading tools, and gradually building an auction‑empire from humble beginnings. The game features a large variety of unique items, auctions in different locations, and the risk‑reward tension of uncertainty: not every bid pays off.

Since its initial Early Access release, the developers have continued to support and expand the game. Over time, Storage Hunter Simulator has received updates adding new auction locations, more items, improved item evaluation tools, and enhanced gameplay mechanics. The update leading to version 1.0 introduced highly requested features including multiplayer mode, additional auction venues, more vehicles, and a “festival area” with mini‑games, broadening the scope beyond solo auctioneering to social and competitive gameplay.

The game was promoted using a mixture of nostalgia for reality‑TV style auction shows and the appeal of risk‑and‑reward gameplay. Marketing materials emphasised the thrill of bidding, the excitement of uncovering hidden treasures, and the satisfaction of turning junk into profit. As the game gained attention, part of its promotion relied on community engagement and streaming: content creators sharing their gameplay helped spread awareness and cemented its reputation as a fun, replayable simulator.

Reception to Storage Hunter Simulator has been largely positive. During early access it achieved rapid sales milestones — for instance reaching 100,000 sales shortly after launch and passing 250,000 units sold by mid‑2025. The game holds a strong user rating on its storefront, and reviewers and players generally praise its mix of auction‑house drama, item discovery, and business management. Many enjoy the unpredictability and variety of auctions, while the steady updates and community‑driven development have helped maintain interest. At the same time, because the game spent a significant time in Early Access, some users note that certain systems remained rough until version 1.0 — but overall the full release is seen as a solid maturation of the concept.
