Get to Work was developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts, released in 2015. It is a major game pack for The Sims 4 that expands gameplay through active, on-location careers and a new entrepreneurial layer that lets players create and manage retail businesses in addition to directing Sims through day-to-day professional life.

The pack adds three active career paths — Doctor, Detective and Scientist — each with interactive workplaces where players can follow Sims to work, perform job-specific tasks, and influence outcomes through direct control. Doctors diagnose and treat patients, Detectives investigate crimes and pursue suspects, and Scientists conduct experiments, invent gadgets and attract alien encounters; the pack also introduces a retail system that allows Sims to open shops, design floor plans, set prices, manage inventory and interact with customers.

Promotion for Get to Work used Electronic Arts’ and Maxis’ typical marketing channels, including store pages, trailers, social media reveals and developer showcases that highlighted the active workplaces, career interactions and the retail creation tools. Community creators, livestream demonstrations and build-play showcases were widely used to demonstrate running businesses, solving crimes, performing surgeries and conducting science experiments, with marketing aimed at players who wanted more hands-on control over careers and venue-driven gameplay.

Reception was broadly positive, with praise focused on the pack’s meaningful gameplay additions, especially the ability to follow Sims to work and the variety of interactions across the three active careers, while some players criticised occasional bugs, repetitive workplace AI and limitations in long-term career depth. Overall Get to Work is commonly regarded as one of the more significant early game packs for The Sims 4, valued for its expansion of player agency, career roleplay and the introduction of playable retail.
