Train Sim World 6’s Santa Fe on Cajon Pass DLC was developed by High Iron Simulations and released on 13 November 2025. The publisher is Dovetail Games, under its Train Sim World (TSW) label. This add-on requires the base Train Sim World 6 game to play, as it builds upon an existing route rather than standing alone.

The DLC doesn’t introduce an entirely new route — instead, it enhances the Cajon Pass line by bringing it into the early 1990s, recreating the era before the BNSF merger. Players get to drive two classic Santa Fe locomotives: the C40-8W in iconic Warbonnet red and silver, and the SD40-2 in the blue-and-yellow freight livery. In addition, there is a trio of Santa Fe–specific freight cars (including cement hoppers, boxcars, and covered hoppers), alongside several reworked existing wagons.

The add-on also introduces new operational content: there’s a full freight timetable based on real Santa Fe schedules of the era, as well as five specially designed scenarios. The service mix includes mainline intermodal trains, manifest freight, yard switching, and local work. If players also own the Cajon Pass route add-on, they can layer in Union Pacific freight services from Sherman Hill for extra variety. High Iron Simulations have carefully modelled the physics, handling, and dynamics of the locomotives to feel authentic, and the livery and cab detail aim to evoke that early 1990s Santa Fe experience.

Promotion for Santa Fe on Cajon Pass was included in Train Sim World 6’s public roadmap, where it was announced as a “Santa Fe Gameplay Pack” by High Iron Simulations. The community buzz grew through forums and social channels, as fans expressed excitement for the return of Santa Fe liveries and 90s freight action. On release, reception was mixed: some longtime rail nerds praised the authenticity and nostalgia, while others noted that the content is relatively modest in scale (with only a couple of locos and a handful of cars). Because the Steam page shows very few user reviews at launch, it's still early to gauge its full popularity.
