Train Simulator: DB ICE 2 EMU

The DB ICE 2 DLC for Train Simulator Classic was developed and published by Dovetail Games, bringing one of Germany’s most iconic high-speed trains into the simulator. The InterCityExpress 2 (ICE 2) is a successor to the original ICE 1 and has been a mainstay of Deutsche Bahn’s high-speed network since the mid-1990s. Slightly shorter than the ICE 1, it retains many of its technological advancements, including distributed traction. In Train Simulator Classic, the ICE 2 was faithfully recreated with attention to detail, offering players an authentic high-speed passenger experience.

The add-on includes multiple units of the ICE 2 trainset, all modelled in Deutsche Bahn’s distinctive red and white livery. Players can operate the train in different consist lengths and configurations, reflecting the real-world flexibility of the fleet. The DLC comes with a series of scenarios specifically designed for the Munich–Augsburg route, one of Germany’s key high-speed corridors. These scenarios task players with maintaining precise schedules while travelling at high speeds between the two cities, navigating signals, speed restrictions, and station stops along the way. Free-drive options are also available, giving players the freedom to operate the ICE 2 across compatible parts of the route at their own pace, whether for practice or casual enjoyment.

Reception of the DB ICE 2 DLC was very positive, with players praising the level of detail in both the trainset and its operational behaviour. The addition of high-speed intercity passenger service brought variety to Train Simulator Classic’s predominantly freight-focused library.
