£10,000 Lead Theft Targets North Yorkshire Heritage Railway

Police are seeking assistance from the public after a significant theft from a heritage railway building in North Yorkshire, where thousands of pounds worth of lead was stolen during an evening raid.

The incident took place at around 8.50pm on Friday 23 January at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway site in Pickering. Officers believe two men arrived at the location in a white car, thought to be a VW Tiguan, before gaining access to the building.

After approaching the site, the pair are said to have scaled a gate and climbed onto the roof, where they removed lead valued at approximately £10,000. Police say the theft also caused substantial damage to the building, estimated to be at least £20,000.

Following the incident, the two men left the area, travelling in the direction of Scarborough along the A170. Investigators have since released images and are asking anyone who was in the vicinity at the time, or who may have dashcam, CCTV or other footage of the vehicle or the individual pictured, to come forward.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference number 2600008502. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
