Appeal launched over post-match assault at Wolverhampton station

British Transport Police have appealed for help after a serious assault at Wolverhampton railway station left a man hospitalised following a football match. Officers have issued images of a man they want to identify, believing he may hold information crucial to the investigation.

The attack took place at about 6.30pm on Saturday 7 February in the waiting area on Platform 4. Police say a sizeable group of men had gathered while waiting for a train when the victim began singing football-related chants.

Moments later, one man broke away from the group and confronted the victim. He is alleged to have struck him twice in the face, knocking him to the ground before leaving the station shortly afterwards.

The injured man was taken to hospital and remains there with a suspected bleed on the brain. While his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, officers have said they could have life-changing consequences.

Investigators are urging anyone who recognises the man shown in the released images, or who witnessed the incident, to come forward. British Transport Police can be contacted by text or phone on 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 600 of 7 February. Anonymous information can also be passed to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
