Ardgay Station in Scotland has completed a £1.35 million upgrade to platform 1, improving passenger access and making train boarding faster and more convenient. The nine-week project involved carefully deconstructing and rebuilding the platform at a reduced length, allowing passengers to reach trains more easily and helping services run on time. Tactile paving was also added to enhance safety for visually impaired travellers.

Construction was carried out in short sections, enabling the station to remain fully operational throughout the works, with the station building itself unaffected. This project forms part of Network Rail’s wider programme to modernise Scotland’s rail infrastructure, which has seen platform renewal work at locations including Hillington West, Hamilton West, Dunkeld and Birnam, and Alexandra Parade in Glasgow.

Ian Clark, scheme project manager at Network Rail Scotland, said:

“We’re pleased to have delivered this improvement for passengers at Ardgay. By rebuilding the platform, passengers can now reach their trains much more easily, and it should help services keep moving without unnecessary delays. Completing the work with the station open was a key priority for us, and I’m proud of the team for managing this effectively. These changes, including the addition of tactile paving, reflect our commitment to making Scotland’s railway safer and more reliable.”

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, added:

“We’re delighted to see the completion of accessibility improvements at Ardgay station, which will make a real difference for customers who travel on this route. ScotRail is committed to making Scotland’s Railway accessible for all, and these upgrades will help deliver safer, easier, and more comfortable journeys for local people and visitors alike. We’d like to thank customers and the local community for their patience and support while the work was carried out, and we hope everyone benefits from these enhancements for many years to come.”
