Police are appealing for help to identify a man they want to speak to following the theft of a bag from a rail replacement bus in Essex.

The incident took place shortly after 10.45am on Saturday 10 January while the victim was travelling on a rail replacement service between Chelmsford and Colchester. Officers say the owner fell asleep during the journey, at which point the bag was stolen.

The bag contained a MacBook, a wallet and other personal items. Police believe the man they are seeking left the bus when it stopped at Witham railway station.

Investigators say a bank card taken during the theft was then used a short time later at a Morrisons store in Witham, helping officers trace movements linked to the incident.

Essex Police are now asking anyone who recognises the man or has relevant information, including CCTV or other footage, to come forward as enquiries continue.

An Essex Police spokesperson said:

"If you have any information or footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us. Please quote crime reference 42/4525/26 when providing any information to make sure it gets to the right person as quickly as possible."
