Bridge Strike Near Cardiff Central Causes Major Rail Disruption
A road vehicle earlier struck a bridge near Cardiff Central Station, causing significant disruption to rail services in the area. Trains were unable to cross the bridge, with some lines blocked and services affected across multiple operators. Early reports indicated that a Royal Mail lorry was involved in the incident on Bute Street.
Lines have now reopened but passengers travelling through Cardiff Central can expect cancellations, delays of up to 60 minutes, or diversions. Major disruption is expected until at least 22:30.
Transport for Wales has advised that trains to and from Merthyr Tydfil, Aberdare, and Treherbert may be rerouted via Fairwater. Great Western Railway has warned that its services could be delayed or cancelled, while CrossCountry Trains has not yet provided guidance on its operations.
Passengers are urged to check their journeys using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner or the website of their train operator for the latest updates.
