c2c offers marathon runners free journeys as London prepares for race day
Runners taking part in the London Marathon this year will be able to travel at no cost on services operated by c2c Railway, as the company confirms it will once again offer free journeys for participants on race day.
The initiative applies on Sunday 26 April 2026 and is aimed at helping those competing in the event travel to and from the capital with ease. To access the offer, runners are required to show either their official race number before the event or their finisher’s medal afterwards when passing through stations served by the operator.
The process has been kept straightforward, with c2c staff checking proof of participation at both departure and arrival points. The scheme is intended to reduce travel costs for those taking part, many of whom are raising funds for charities and causes across the UK.
While runners benefit from free travel, spectators planning to head into London are being encouraged to book ahead. By purchasing tickets online at least three days in advance through the c2c website, passengers can secure Off-Peak Return fares at a discounted rate, cutting the price by around a third.
Rob Mullen, Managing Director of c2c Railway, said:
“As a keen runner, I’m thrilled that we can once again provide free c2c train travel for those participating in the London Marathon. It’s inspiring to see so many runners supporting a wide range of charities and good causes throughout the UK and our own communities. I’d like to extend my best wishes to everyone taking part in this year’s marathon.”
