CAF has secured a further regional rail order in France after SNCF Voyageurs confirmed a contract for ten additional Régiolis trains to operate in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The deal is valued at around €80 million and will expand the fleet serving southwestern France.

The latest agreement underlines SNCF Voyageurs’ continued confidence in the CAF–Alstom consortium. As with previous contracts, CAF will take responsibility for the design and final assembly of the trains at its Reichshoffen facility in Alsace, while Alstom will supply a range of onboard systems and technical equipment.

The new units will add to the 54 Régiolis trains already in service across the Nouvelle-Aquitaine rail network. They will be four-car, bimode trains capable of operating under both electric and diesel power, with capacity for 208 passengers. CAF said the trains are designed with passenger comfort in mind, featuring large windows, indirect LED lighting, seats with armrests, individual reading lights and power sockets.

This order follows a series of Régiolis fleet extensions awarded to CAF in recent years for different French regions. These contracts stem from a 2021 agreement with Alstom, under which CAF acquired the Reichshoffen industrial site and took on responsibility for developing further versions of the Régiolis platform for SNCF. With the addition of these ten trains, almost 50 Régiolis units have now been commissioned to CAF, strengthening production activity at its French plants and reinforcing its role as a long-term partner to transport authorities at local, regional and national level.

CAF has built a broad presence in the French mobility market, supplying everything from long-distance Intercités trains and commuter rolling stock to trams, metros and zero-emission buses. France is now one of the group’s most important markets, with further growth expected in the coming years.

The company is currently delivering a number of high-profile projects across the country. These include new trains for Paris’s RER B line, Intercités fleets for routes linking Paris with Clermont-Ferrand, Toulouse and Bordeaux to Marseille, as well as tram schemes in cities such as Montpellier, Marseille, Tours and Grenoble.
