Czech Republic Train Crash Leaves Four Seriously Hurt
Two passenger trains collided in the Czech Republic early on Wednesday, leaving dozens injured, including four in serious condition. The crash occurred at approximately 6:20am near Ceske Budejovice, around 70 miles south of Prague. One of the trains involved was an express service.
Fire and rescue teams confirmed that all passengers were safely evacuated from both trains. Authorities reported that four people were taken to hospital with serious injuries, nine sustained moderate injuries, and 25 were treated for minor injuries. Local media also reported that firefighters had to free the driver of one of the trains. Images from the scene showed significant damage to the front ends of both trains.
Transport Minister Martin Kupka posted on X that while the cause of the collision remains under investigation, preliminary information indicates that one of the trains may have passed a signal at stop.
Train services between Ceske Budejovice and Pilsen have been suspended and are not expected to resume until later in the afternoon.
