December Timetable Updates Bring More Capacity and Improved Punctuality on Greater Anglia
Greater Anglia has announced timetable changes taking effect this December, aimed at improving punctuality, connectivity, and capacity across its network. Key adjustments include revised train times on the West Anglia route and additional Sunday services for West Runton on the Norwich to Sheringham line. Some services on the Great Eastern Main Line and between Southend Victoria and London will also expand from five to ten carriages to accommodate rising passenger numbers.
The new timetable for the West Anglia route, effective Sunday 14 December, brings peak time departures 2–10 minutes earlier, designed to enhance reliability and performance across Cambridge, Ely, Stansted Airport, Hertford East, and Stratford routes. Passengers are advised to check schedules before travelling to ensure smooth journeys.
On the West Anglia line, Cheshunt and Waltham Cross will see adjusted calling patterns. Cambridge and Ely services will stop less frequently at Cheshunt, while Hertford East and Stansted trains will now call there more often. Several Stratford-bound services will be diverted between Hertford East and Bishop’s Stortford to maintain punctuality, and the Stratford–Meridian Water service will increase from three to four trains per hour during the evening peak, improving connectivity along the Lea Valley.
Morning peak changes include earlier departures for Cambridge and Ely services and revised calling patterns at Cheshunt. Some Hertford East–Liverpool Street trains will now call at Cheshunt but skip Waltham Cross, while Stansted services are retimed for better integration with Cambridge arrivals into London. Evening peak adjustments see most departures leaving 2–10 minutes earlier. Slower Cambridge-bound trains will include Brimsdown and generally skip Waltham Cross, while semi-fast services continue to call there. Stratford-originating trains will be diverted or alternated between Bishop’s Stortford and Hertford East to improve flow.
On the Norwich to Sheringham line, West Runton station will now receive an hourly Sunday service, doubling the current frequency and offering improved access for weekend travellers.
Martin Beable, Managing Director of Greater Anglia, said:
“These timetable changes will improve punctuality and reliability across our network, helping customers enjoy faster and more consistent journeys. With our modern fleet now operating all services, rail travel in our region is more comfortable, reliable, and convenient than ever.”
