Driver Dies After Vehicle Hit by Freight Train in Coon Rapids
One person has died after a vehicle was struck by a train in Coon Rapids, MN on New Year’s Day, authorities have confirmed.
Police were called to the scene at around 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, January 1, following reports that a freight train had collided with a passenger vehicle. Officers from the Coon Rapids Police Department found that the driver was the only person inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Emergency crews extricated the driver from the vehicle and transported them to hospital. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway later confirmed that the driver died as a result of their injuries.
No injuries were reported among the crew members on board the freight train, and police said there were no other occupants in the vehicle.
The circumstances surrounding the collision have not been detailed further.
