A person has tragically died after being struck by a train on a Glasgow railway line. Emergency services were called to Easterhouse Station shortly after 1pm on Monday, October 20, and the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

The incident has caused widespread disruption on multiple routes, including Balloch/Milngavie to Airdrie, Helensburgh Central, Garscadden, Milngavie, and Edinburgh. Rail replacement services have been arranged for some affected routes, and tickets are being accepted on alternative ScotRail services at no extra cost via reasonable routes. Disruption is expected to continue until around 4pm.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Easterhouse railway station at around 1pm today following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the procurator fiscal.”

A National Rail spokesperson added: “Whilst the emergency services carry out their work, all lines between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh via Airdrie are closed. Trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes, or revised. If you've been affected by what happened on the network today, there is always someone to talk to. You can contact the Samaritans on 116 123 from any phone for a confidential chat.”
