Gatwick Airport Station Closed After Man Arrested With Imitation Firearms On Train

Rail services through Gatwick Airport were temporarily halted on February 20 after reports that a passenger was carrying a firearm on board a train from Brighton.

British Transport Police confirmed they were alerted at 12.45pm to concerns about a man travelling with what was believed to be a weapon. Sussex Police officers intercepted the train when it arrived at Gatwick Airport station, where the suspect was detained.

The station was closed while emergency services responded and trains running through the airport were suspended during the incident. Normal service resumed later in the afternoon, with disruption cleared by 2.30pm.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said:

“We received a report at 12.45pm on February 20 of a man on board a train from Brighton with a firearm. Sussex Police officers met the train at Gatwick Airport, and arrested a man in possession of two imitation firearms. BTP officers are investigating.”

Sussex Police confirmed the timing of the arrest and the nature of the items recovered.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said:

“Sussex Police detained a man on a train at 1.25pm on February 20, when it pulled into Gatwick Airport. He was arrested for possession of two imitation firearms. BTP officers are investigating.”
