GWR Adds 50 Trains for Wales v Scotland Six Nations Showdown
Great Western Railway is set to run 50 trains and provide close to 25,000 seats for supporters travelling to Cardiff for Saturday’s Six Nations clash between Wales and Scotland.
With demand expected to be high for the 16:40 kick-off at the Principality Stadium, all services heading into Cardiff before the match will operate on a reservation-only basis. Passengers are being strongly encouraged to secure seats in advance to avoid being turned away on the day.
In total, 27 trains will run into the Welsh capital ahead of kick-off, carrying fans from across the GWR network. Stadium gates will open early, and supporters are advised to travel well before the busiest period to help ensure a smoother journey.
Following the final whistle, expected at around 18:30, GWR will operate 23 return services towards Swansea and destinations across the South West of England. While reservations will not be required for the journey home, trains are likely to be extremely busy.
A managed queueing system will be in place outside Cardiff Central station after the match, with boarding handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Customers are being reminded to allow extra time to join queues and board safely, particularly with other sporting fixtures also taking place on Saturday.
Rachel Geliamassi, GWR Customer Services Director, said:
“We're delighted to be laying on significant extra capacity for what promises to be a really important Six Nations clash at the Principality Stadium. We'd urge fans to plan ahead and secure their seats early to avoid disappointment. Please allow sufficient time to make your journey and remember that trains will be extremely busy leading up to kick-off and immediately following the match. There are a number of other sporting fixtures also taking place on Saturday – so please check your journeys beforehand.”
