Great Western Railway (GWR) has officially unveiled the upgraded Twyford station, marking a major step forward in creating a more welcoming, secure, and customer-focused environment for the thousands of passengers who pass through the Thames Valley hub each day.

A special ceremony this morning celebrated the completion of the works, which form part of GWR’s wider programme to modernise stations across its network. The improvements aim to deliver a safer, more comfortable experience while enhancing facilities for both passengers and staff.

Key upgrades at Twyford station include a new open-plan ticket desk to improve visibility and customer service, enhanced seating areas for greater passenger comfort, a new retail outlet within the station building, and relocated ticket machines now housed indoors to provide security and protection from the elements. Colleague facilities have also been upgraded to create a better working environment for station staff.

Relocating the ticket machines inside the station is a particularly significant improvement, ensuring passengers can make transactions safely while sheltered from adverse weather. Meanwhile, enhanced seating and retail amenities add convenience and comfort for those waiting for trains.

Tom Pierpoint, GWR Business Development Director, said:

“These improvements represent our commitment to the community we serve and in creating stations that work better for everyone who uses them. Over 1.7 million passenger journeys a year are made from this station, and every customer deserves facilities that are modern, secure, and comfortable. From the new open-plan ticket desk that makes staff more accessible, to bringing the ticket machines inside where it's safer and more sheltered, every change has been designed with our customers in mind. We're also pleased to welcome a new retail site adding convenience for travellers.”

The upgrades at Twyford are part of GWR’s ongoing investment in station infrastructure, highlighting the operator’s focus on enhancing passenger experience while supporting staff in delivering high-quality service.
