Inspiration Exhibition Train Returns to Greater Anglia for Railway 200
The special exhibition train Inspiration, which drew over 40,000 visitors nationwide in 2025, is returning to the Greater Anglia network in 2026 as part of Railway 200, the national celebration marking 200 years of the modern railway. The touring train will stop at four new locations, with complimentary tickets now available for visitors via the Railway 200 website. Families and rail enthusiasts are encouraged to book early to secure their place.
Inspiration features four specially designed carriages that explore the past, present, and future of Britain’s railways. Highlights include ‘Railway Firsts’, showcasing historic milestones that transformed rail travel; ‘Wonderlab on Wheels’, an interactive coach aimed at inspiring future engineers; ‘Your Railway Future’, a career-focused zone; and the ‘Partner Zone’, featuring contributions from regional industry partners. While the train itself will not carry passengers between stops, visits are scheduled from 10am to 4pm, with the exhibition closing at 5pm and individual tours lasting up to an hour. A virtual tour will also be available for those unable to attend in person.
Martin Beable, Managing Director of Greater Anglia, said:
“We are really looking forward to welcoming back Inspiration to East Anglia and continuing the celebrations linked to the 200th anniversary of the modern railway. Having the exhibition train visit Cambridge, Colchester, Clacton-on-Sea, and Hertford East stations in early 2026 will shine a spotlight on the past and present of the railway, while inspiring the next generation of railway talent.”
Emma Roberts, Programme Manager for Railway 200, added:
“Inspiration is a fun, free and fascinating way to learn about the past, present and future of rail. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a rail enthusiast or simply curious about a British innovation that changed the world. We’re excited to bring Inspiration to East Anglia and we look forward to welcoming you aboard!”
In its summer 2025 tour, Inspiration visited Norwich and Lowestoft stations, attracting over 5,700 visitors across eight days. Attendance was consistently high, with 600 to 800 people visiting each day, reflecting the exhibition’s broad appeal and interactive nature.
