Inspiration Train to Celebrate 200 Years of Rail at Llandudno This November
Llandudno is set to host a major moment in the UK’s Railway 200 festivities, as Transport for Wales and Network Rail welcome the touring exhibition train Inspiration to the town’s station from 15–18 November 2025.
The North Wales stop marks the only opportunity for people in Wales to experience the flagship train during its nationwide journey. Railway 200 commemorates two centuries since the birth of the modern railway, combining historical reflection with a focus on the next generation of engineers, innovators and rail leaders. By the end of the year, Inspiration will have reached 60 locations across Britain.
Created in partnership with the National Railway Museum, the train offers four immersive carriages — each with a different purpose and theme. Visitors can explore major breakthroughs in railway history, get hands-on with interactive engineering challenges in the mobile Wonderlab, discover diverse careers across the rail industry, and visit a rotating partner zone celebrating collaboration across the sector. The event will also highlight Network North Wales and the organisations shaping the region’s future transport landscape.
Wales’ own role in railway history takes centre stage too, from Richard Trevithick’s pioneering locomotive work to the Swansea and Mumbles Railway, recognised as the world’s first fare-paying passenger service — foundations that helped ignite a revolution in global transport.
Alex Fortune, Senior Project Manager at Transport for Wales, said: “We’ve collaborated across the rail industry and communities to deliver events celebrating rail’s past, present and future. Inspiration’s visit is a proud culmination of that work, and we’re thrilled to welcome it to Llandudno.”
Emma Roberts, Programme Manager for Railway 200, added: “This special exhibition train is set to become a new, national visitor attraction, providing an unforgettable experience for hundreds of thousands of people across Britain. It will excite, enlighten, entertain and inspire them to take a fresh look at the railway, as part of its anniversary celebrations.”
Free tickets are available for entry between 15–18 November. Pre-booked sessions run daily from 10am, with last entry at 4pm and the train closing at 5pm. Each visit is expected to last up to an hour.
