The popular exhibition train, Inspiration, which drew more than 40,000 visitors nationwide in 2025, is returning to the Greater Anglia network later this month as part of Railway 200, a celebration marking 200 years of the modern railway.

Four new stops have been confirmed for the tour, with visitors now able to reserve free tickets to see the train. The exhibition is expected to attract thousands from across the region and beyond, and early booking is encouraged to avoid disappointment.

Inspiration comprises four specially designed carriages, showcasing the past, present, and future of Britain’s railways. Highlights include ‘Railway Firsts,’ which explores historic moments that shaped rail travel; ‘Wonderlab on Wheels,’ an interactive space aimed at inspiring future engineers; ‘Your Railway Future,’ focusing on career opportunities within the rail industry; and the ‘Partner Zone,’ curated by regional industry partners.

The train will not carry passengers during its journey between stops. Visits will run from 10am to 4pm, with the train closing at 5pm, and each tour is expected to last up to an hour. A virtual tour will also be available for those unable to attend in person.

In summer 2025, Inspiration visited Norwich and Lowestoft stations over eight days, attracting more than 5,700 visitors. Daily attendance ranged from 600 to 800 people, with interactive features proving popular with audiences of all ages.

Martin Beable, Greater Anglia’s Managing Director, said:

“We are really looking forward to welcoming back Inspiration to East Anglia and continuing the celebrations linked to the 200th anniversary of the modern railway. Having the exhibition train visit Cambridge, Colchester, Clacton-on-Sea, and Hertford East stations in early 2026 will shine a spotlight on the past and present of the railway, while inspiring the next generation of railway talent.”

Emma Roberts, Programme Manager for Railway 200, added:

“Inspiration is a fun, free and fascinating way to learn about the past, present and future of rail. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a rail enthusiast or simply curious about a British innovation that changed the world. We’re excited to bring Inspiration to East Anglia and we look forward to welcoming you aboard!”
