London Liverpool Street reclaims title as UK’s busiest railway station
London Liverpool Street has reclaimed its position as the UK’s busiest railway station, according to the latest figures from the Office of Rail and Road. An estimated 98.0 million entries and exits were recorded at the station in the year ending March 2025, representing a 3.7% increase on the previous year’s total of 94.5 million.
The boost sees Liverpool Street regain the top spot after temporarily losing it when the Elizabeth line opened, which reshaped passenger flows across London. The station had previously held the title for all but one of the 18 years up to and including 2021/22.
London Waterloo followed in second place with 70.4 million entries and exits, a rise from its fourth-place ranking in the previous 12 months. London Paddington and Tottenham Court Road were third and fourth respectively, with 69.9 million and 68.1 million entries and exits. Both stations are served by the Elizabeth line, which runs from Reading and Heathrow Airport in the west to Abbey Wood in south-east London and Shenfield in Essex.
London Bridge completed the top five with 54.7 million entries and exits, highlighting the continued dominance of central London hubs in rail travel. At the other end of the spectrum, Elton and Orston in Nottinghamshire recorded just 68 entries and exits, making it the least-used station in Britain during the same period.
