Lord Hendy Reviews EWR Proposals During Cambridge Station Visit
Lord Hendy visited Cambridge to review emerging plans for East West Rail (EWR), receiving an update on several key proposals that continue to evolve following public consultation. He was welcomed at the station by EWR chief executive David Hughes and members of the project team before being shown locations under consideration for a new eastern entrance — an addition shaped directly by feedback gathered earlier in the year.
During the tour, the delegation also explored wider ambitions for the route, including a potential new station at Cambridge East and four upgraded or replacement stations along the Marston Vale Line. Among them is a proposed new Stewartby station designed to support access to the planned Universal theme park development.
After speaking with journalists on the platform, Lord Hendy met a group of senior regional figures to discuss the latest design changes detailed in the recently published You Said, We Did report. Those in attendance included Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner, Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Mayor Paul Bristow, and representatives from Cambridge City Council and Cambridgeshire County Council.
Project leaders described the discussions as positive, highlighting visible cross-party support from local, regional and national stakeholders. They say this cooperation will be essential in realising the benefits of East West Rail and associated developments, helping to drive economic growth while strengthening transport links for communities in and around Cambridge.
