Passengers travelling between Nottingham and Lincoln are being advised to plan ahead as drainage improvement work at Lowdham station affects services this weekend. Network Rail is carrying out a project to replace ageing infrastructure, installing 400 metres of drainage pipe and 16 water management chambers to help prevent track flooding and protect railway components.

The £300,000 investment aims to improve the reliability and longevity of the line, but services will be disrupted on Saturday evening and throughout Sunday. Rail replacement buses will be in operation to maintain connectivity while the work is carried out.

Dan Matthews, Network Rail operations director, said:

“Renewing the drainage helps keep people and freight safe by extending the life of the track. It also means smoother, more reliable journeys and reduces the need for maintenance in the future. We’re sorry to anyone whose journey is affected as we carry out this drainage work, which will bring clear benefits for everyone who uses or travels through Lowdham station.”

Philippa Cresswell, customer experience director for East Midlands Railway, added:

“We’re encouraging customers planning to travel between Nottingham and Newark Castle on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 November to check their journey in advance and allow extra time, as rail replacement buses will be in operation from Saturday evening while Network Rail carries out essential drainage work at Lowdham. We’d like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding while this important work takes place to help deliver more reliable journeys in the future.”

The following service alterations will take place:

Saturday:

The 20.43 Leicester to Lincoln train will terminate at Nottingham at 21.30. A rail replacement bus will run from Nottingham to Lincoln, calling at Carlton, Burton Joyce, Lowdham, Bleasby, Fiskerton, Newark Castle, Collingham and Hykeham.

The 21.42 Lincoln to Nottingham train will terminate at Newark Castle. A rail replacement bus will run from Newark Castle to Nottingham calling at Fiskerton, Lowdham, Burton Joyce and Carlton.

An extra train will run at 22.20 from Newark Castle to Lincoln, calling at Collingham and Hykeham.

Sunday:

Buses will replace trains between Newark Castle and Nottingham.
