Malton Station Gets Festive Makeover Thanks to Young Artists
Malton station has embraced the festive season with a creative touch, thanks to the efforts of Year 6 pupils from St Mary’s Catholic Primary School. This December, eight students visited the station to decorate the Christmas tree with handmade baubles crafted in class, adding a splash of colour and seasonal cheer to the concourse.
The project was a collaboration between TransPennine Express (TPE) and the school, reflecting TPE’s commitment to fostering strong community connections while celebrating young people’s creativity. It forms part of TPE’s wider programme of school engagement, which seeks to link stations with local communities and provide students with the chance to display their work in public spaces.
Passengers and station staff alike can enjoy the pupils’ festive decorations throughout December, which brighten the station and bring a welcoming atmosphere to Malton.
Andrew McClements, Customer Experience & Transformation Director at TransPennine Express, said:
“It’s fantastic to see Malton station filled with colour and festive cheer thanks to the creativity of pupils from St Mary’s Catholic Primary School. Our stations are an important part of the communities they serve, and partnerships like this help create welcoming spaces while giving young people the opportunity to showcase their talents.”
Mr Harrison, teacher at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, added:
“The children were incredibly proud to see their decorations displayed at Malton station. Projects like this give pupils a real sense of achievement and show them that their creativity can make a positive difference in the local community. It’s been a wonderful experience for them to be part of something that brings joy to so many people.”
