Man dies after being struck by train near Retford
A fatal incident on the railway in Nottinghamshire has led to an investigation after a man was struck by a train near Retford.
Emergency services were called to the line in the Babworth area, just outside the town, at around 6.30pm on Tuesday, February 3. Paramedics attended the scene but were unable to save the man, who was pronounced dead at the location.
British Transport Police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious and that the circumstances will be referred to the coroner in due course.
The incident caused disruption to rail services on Tuesday evening. London North Eastern Railway said trains were subject to delays, cancellations and alterations while emergency services dealt with the situation.
A spokesperson for BTP said:
"Officers were called at around 6.30pm on Tuesday, 3 February, to reports of a casualty on the tracks in the Babworth area. Officers responded with paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
