Man Sought Following Racist and Homophobic Abuse on Piccadilly Line

Police are appealing for help to identify a man following an incident on a London Underground service that escalated into violence.

The incident occurred just after midnight on Thursday 26 February on a Piccadilly Line train travelling between Acton Town Underground station and Osterley Underground station.

According to investigators, a man on board was behaving aggressively and directed homophobic and racist remarks towards a young woman. Another passenger intervened in an attempt to support her, leading to a confrontation between the two men.

The situation turned physical, with a fight breaking out on the train. The intervening passenger sustained minor injuries during the altercation.

The suspect then left the service at Osterley station before officers could attend.

British Transport Police has released an image of a man they believe may be able to assist with enquiries and are urging anyone who recognises him, or who witnessed the incident, to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 10 of 26 February. Information can also be given anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
