Comedian Matt Lucas was confronted by a pro-Palestinian activist while travelling on the London Underground, in an encounter that was filmed and later circulated online before being deleted.

The footage showed the 51-year-old Little Britain star being followed on an escalator at a London Tube station by Thomas Abdullah Bourne, who is known on social media as “White British Muslim”. As Lucas made his way upwards, Mr Abdullah Bourne could be heard repeatedly shouting, “Free Palestine. Free Palestine, Matt Lucas.”

Initially appearing to shield his face from the camera, Lucas later turned to address the man at the top of the escalator, calmly asking, “Hi, how are you?” The activist then replied, “you don’t like what I’m wearing, do you?”, referring to his keffiyeh — the black and white chequered scarf widely recognised as a symbol of Palestinian solidarity.

Lucas responded, “no, I have no comment about it either way”, but the exchange continued, with Mr Abdullah Bourne asking whether the comedian had “a problem with Palestinians” and at one stage calling him a Zionist before the recording came to an abrupt end.

The video has since been removed from social media, and Mr Abdullah Bourne’s accounts also appear to have been deleted.
