May Engineering Works Set to Impact Euston Rail Services

Passengers planning journeys to and from London Euston railway station in May are being advised to check before travelling, as a series of engineering works will bring changes to services while keeping the station and most of the West Coast Main Line open.

Network Rail has confirmed that trains will continue to run throughout the affected weekends, although reduced timetables will be in place at times due to essential upgrades.

During the early May bank holiday from Saturday 2 to Monday 4 May, major track renewal work will be carried out in the Willesden South and Primrose Hill areas. While services will continue to operate, fewer trains will run in and out of Euston, and there will be no London Overground services between Euston and Kilburn High Road.

Significant investment is being made across the route, including more than £8 million at Willesden Junction and £1 million at Harlesden to install five new sets of switches and crossings, which allow trains to move between tracks. At Primrose Hill, almost £1.5 million is being spent on track renewals, while over £1 million is being allocated to drainage improvements near Milton Keynes to reduce the risk of flooding and improve long-term reliability.

Further disruption is expected over the weekend of Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 May, when HS2-related construction work outside Euston will again result in a reduced timetable, although the station will remain open and services will continue to run.

A final round of work is scheduled for Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 May, involving additional drainage improvements near Milton Keynes and continued HS2 construction activity, with services once again reduced.

Gary Walsh, Network Rail’s West Coast South route director said:

“The work taking place throughout May will improve reliability and reduce delays across this key section of the railway for years to come. There will be some changes to services during this time, and I would like to thank passengers for their patience. I would urge anyone travelling on the train to and from Euston during these periods to check before they travel and allow extra time for journeys.”
