Merseyrail is rolling out a festive timetable aimed at helping passengers make the most of the Christmas and New Year period. Services will run throughout the season, with the exception of Christmas Day, while Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve will see earlier final departures. Special timetables will also operate on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day to keep the network moving during the holidays.

Passengers are encouraged to check the Merseyrail website for full information, including first and last train times and any alterations to regular services.

The operator is marking the season in another distinctive way this year, launching a large advent calendar at Liverpool Central station to showcase and support local businesses. From 1 to 23 December, customers will be invited to scan a QR code for the chance to win prizes donated by firms based on or near the network, promoting the value of shopping locally during the festive period.

On 24 December, one person will claim the star prize—an extensive bundle that includes a year’s free travel, £500 in Love2Shop vouchers, Aintree Grand National tickets and other rewards. Entry is available via QR codes at stations or through Merseyrail’s dedicated festive webpage here.

Throughout December, the network will also host activities from Merseyrail’s charities of the year, who will be raising funds for their causes. Carol singers and Santa’s helpers are set to appear across the network too, offering an added touch of festive cheer for travellers.
