TransPennine Express (TPE) is reminding passengers that a new timetable takes effect this Sunday, 14 December, bringing additional services, increased capacity, and more travel options across the North of England and into Scotland.

On the East Coast Mainline, services between Newcastle and Edinburgh will rise from five to eight trains per day. The change adds 2,000 extra seats daily and introduces a new early morning option arriving in Edinburgh at 07:20, with trains now running approximately every two hours. TPE has collaborated with the wider rail industry to ensure a smooth launch of the updated timetable, which also includes faster and more frequent services.

On TPE’s South route, linking Liverpool Lime Street and Cleethorpes via Manchester and Sheffield, most Sunday services will now run with six-car trains, providing extra capacity for weekend travellers. The 08:09 Sheffield to Liverpool Lime Street service will also now call at Dore and Totley on Sundays, offering improved local connections.

Other timetable enhancements include a new 08:13 Sunday service from Liverpool Lime Street to Cleethorpes and a late-night Saturday train departing Manchester Piccadilly at 23:07 for Liverpool Lime Street, offering greater flexibility for evening and leisure travel.

The Hull to Liverpool Lime Street route will also see a major boost in capacity, with most trains up to 19:00 running with five or six carriages, adding around 3,500 extra seats each week to meet demand during busy evening periods.

Andrew McClements, Customer Experience & Transformation Director at TPE, said:

“We’d like to remind customers of our timetable change this Sunday, in line with the rest of the rail industry. While the majority of our services remain the same, we’d encourage customers to double-check their journeys before travelling. We’re pleased to be introducing these improvements that offer more choice and greater flexibility.”

Passengers are advised to check their journeys and allow extra time for travel, as engineering work continues across the network in the coming months.
