Passengers Urged to Plan Ahead as Prittlewell Footbridge Closes for Upgrade Until Spring 2026
Greater Anglia is warning passengers using Prittlewell station to plan extra time for their journeys as major refurbishment work on the station’s footbridge is set to begin later this month.
The footbridge will be closed from Saturday 15 November until spring 2026 while essential maintenance and repairs are carried out. During this period, passengers are advised to use the alternative route via Station Approach and East Street to access Platform 2.
The bridge itself will be removed over the weekend of 22 November so that refurbishment can be completed off-site, before being reinstalled next spring. To facilitate the work, a small section of the car park will be closed from Monday 17 November to Wednesday 26 November to allow crane access. The entire car park will then be shut from Friday 21 November at 19:00 until Monday 24 November at 06:00 during the bridge removal.
The refurbishment project will involve replacing the bridge deck, upgrading the staircases, and improving the lighting. These changes aim to enhance safety, accessibility, and the overall appearance of the station, creating a more welcoming environment for passengers.
Andrew Goodrum, Infrastructure & Major Projects Director at Greater Anglia, said:
“Investing in upgrades across our network demonstrates Greater Anglia’s ongoing commitment to providing excellent facilities and a safe, comfortable experience for our customers. The refurbishment of Prittlewell station footbridge will significantly improve safety and enhance the station environment. We would like to thank our customers and neighbours for their patience and understanding while this important work takes place.”
