A fatal incident on the Norwich to London rail line has led to disruption after a person was struck by a train at Ingatestone station. The collision occurred shortly before midday, drawing an emergency response to the Essex station.

Emergency services attended alongside Network Rail staff, while rail operators implemented service changes during the initial response. Greater Anglia warned that trains running between Norwich and Stratford could face cancellations, delays or alterations as a result of the incident.

British Transport Police later confirmed that the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers remained at the station for several hours while enquiries were carried out.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said:

"Officers were called to Ingatestone railway station at 11.48am today following reports of a casualty on the tracks. The incident is not being treated as suspicious."

Rail services have since resumed and the line has reopened, although passengers were advised to check their journeys as knock-on delays continued into the afternoon.
