Person dies after emergency response to North Ayrshire railway incident
Emergency services were called to a railway incident in North Ayrshire on Wednesday morning, where a person was later confirmed to have died.
British Transport Police responded to reports of a casualty on the line between Fairlie and West Kilbride shortly before 8am on January 7. Paramedics were also sent to the scene but were unable to save the individual, who was pronounced dead upon their arrival.
Investigators have confirmed that the circumstances are not being treated as suspicious. A formal report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
A BTP spokesperson said:
"Officers were called to the line near Fairlie railway station at 7.45am today (January 7) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, however, sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal."
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said:
“We received a call today at 7.48am to attend an incident in West Kilbride and dispatched one ambulance to the scene.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added:
“We supported emergency service partners at an incident on the railway line between Largs and West Kilbride. Operations Control mobilised two appliances and other specialist resources to the area after the alarm was raised at 7.52am on Wednesday, January 7.”
