Detectives from British Transport Police are appealing for witnesses following a stabbing at Mile End Underground station that left a teenager injured.

Police were called to the station at around 17:30 on Tuesday 24 February after reports that a youth had been stabbed during an altercation on the platform. The incident occurred shortly after the victim exited a District line train.

Officers attended the scene alongside paramedics and carried out a search of the surrounding area. However, the suspect had already fled the station on board a train. The victim had also left the scene and later contacted emergency services before being taken to hospital. His injuries were later confirmed to be neither life-threatening nor life-changing.

As part of the investigation, officers arrested a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon. He has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.

Investigators believe several people witnessed the incident but have not yet spoken with police. Detectives are now urging anyone who saw what happened, or who may have information that could assist the investigation, to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to text British Transport Police on 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 532 of 24 February. Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
