Passengers using Greater Anglia services between London and Essex are experiencing disruption this evening following a police incident on the railway.

Police were called to reports of a person at risk of self-harm on the line between Stratford and Shenfield. The individual has since been located and moved to a place of safety, allowing the railway to reopen.

Despite trains running again, Greater Anglia has warned that a number of routes remain affected, with services subject to delays, cancellations or last-minute alterations as operations recover.

Rail staff are urging passengers to check the Greater Anglia website or social media feeds before travelling, as disruption is expected to continue for several hours. Customers are also being advised to allow extra time for their journeys and to pay close attention to station announcements.

Although the lines have reopened, the operator has said disruption is likely to persist until at least 20:30 while timetables are brought back into order.
