Detectives investigating a serious assault on a London Underground train have released CCTV images of a man they want to identify as part of their enquiries.

The incident happened at about 2pm on 9 January on an eastbound Piccadilly line service that had departed from South Ealing Underground station. Police said the victim was approached by another passenger who offered him alcohol.

After the offer was refused, the man allegedly became verbally abusive and aggressive. Officers said the situation escalated further when the victim got off the train at Hammersmith Underground station.

As he stepped onto the platform, the man is accused of striking him on the head with a wine bottle. The bottle shattered on impact, leaving the victim with deep cuts to his head. He required emergency treatment at hospital.

British Transport Police said detectives believe the man shown in the CCTV images may have information that could assist the investigation.

Anyone who recognises him is asked to text BTP on 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 295 of 9 January. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
