Rail Disruption After Person Found Injured on Tracks at Exeter Central Station
Rail services in Devon were brought to a standstill earlier today after emergency crews responded to reports of an injured person on the tracks.
The incident occurred at Exeter Central railway station in the early hours of Tuesday morning (April 14). Trains running between Exeter Central and London Paddington station, as well as services linking Exeter St Davids railway station and London Waterloo station, were suspended while the situation was dealt with.
Emergency services attended the scene shortly after 5.19am, including officers from British Transport Police and paramedics. The casualty was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
Authorities have confirmed that the individual’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing, and the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
The disruption caused significant early morning delays for passengers, with multiple routes affected while the railway remained closed.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said:
"Officers were called to Exeter Central railway station at 5.19am today (April 14) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, and a person was taken to hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life threatening or life changing. The incident is not being treated as suspicious."
Following the response, all lines have since reopened and services have returned to normal.
