Rail Network Steps Up for Scotland’s Big Sporting Week
The Scotland men’s rugby team host Argentina in a Quilter Nations Series match at Scottish Gas Murrayfield on Sunday, 16 November at 15.10, while the men’s national football team take on Denmark in a crucial World Cup Qualifier at Hampden Park on Tuesday, 18 November at 19.45.
To make travelling to and from both matches simple and convenient, ScotRail will operate additional services and extra carriages on key routes throughout each matchday.
Supporters heading to Scottish Gas Murrayfield will benefit from additional services, where possible, in and out of Edinburgh throughout the day, and extra carriages on key routes, including between Edinburgh Waverley and Fife, Perth, and the Borders Railway.
The nearest station to Murrayfield is Haymarket, which is just a short walk or tram ride from the stadium.
Edinburgh Trams operate a fast and frequent service between the entrance of the stadium and St Andrew Square tram stop - a short walk from Edinburgh Waverley.
Edinburgh City Centre is also accessible from Scottish Gas Murrayfield by a number of Lothian Bus services (1, 3, 12, 22, 25, 26, 30, 31 or 33).
After the final whistle, fans should make their way to a designated holding area on Haymarket Terrace, where they’ll be then directed to the appropriate queue for their train home.
Ahead of Tuesday night’s football, fans travelling to Hampden Park are encouraged to take the train to Mount Florida, the nearest stations to the stadium. To support travel, ScotRail will run more services and add extra carriages between Glasgow Central and Mount Florida, before and after the match.
Fans should make their way back to Mount Florida station as quickly as they can when the game ends, as a queuing system will be in place.
Customers are advised to buy return tickets in advance via the ScotRail app, online, at a ticket office, or from a self-service ticket machine.
Additional ScotRail staff will be on hand across both events to assist customers and help ensure everything runs smoothly.
Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said:
“It’s another brilliant week for Scottish sport, and we’re looking forward to helping thousands of fans travel to both Murrayfield and Hampden to support the national teams. We’re putting on more trains and extra carriages to make it easier for supporters to get to the matches and home again after the final whistle. Travelling by train is the best way to enjoy the occasion, avoid the traffic, and be part of the atmosphere from start to finish.”
