ScotRail Prepares Extra Trains and Staff for Scotland v Tonga Match at Murrayfield
ScotRail says it is fully prepared to help thousands of supporters make their way to Edinburgh this Sunday as Scotland face Tonga in the Quilter Nations Series. The national team will play the final fixture of their autumn campaign at Scottish Gas Murrayfield on 23 November, with kick-off scheduled for 13:40.
With heavy traffic expected on routes into the capital, fans are being encouraged to travel by rail. ScotRail has confirmed it plans to run additional trains where possible, as well as increase capacity on a number of busy lines serving the city. Extra carriages will be in operation on services connecting Edinburgh Waverley to Fife, Perth and along the Borders Railway.
Supporters heading for Murrayfield are advised that Haymarket station is the closest stop to the stadium and is only a short walk or tram ride away. After the final whistle, fans making their way home will find crowd-management measures in place around the station, including a designated holding area on Haymarket Terrace to ensure safe queuing.
Rail users are being urged to purchase return tickets ahead of time through the ScotRail app, online, at ticket offices or via station ticket machines to make boarding quicker and reduce queuing. Extra members of staff will be deployed across key stations to offer advice and assist with crowd movement.
Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said:
“Travelling by train is the best way to avoid the traffic and enjoy a great day watching the rugby. To support travel to this weekend’s Scotland v Tonga match at Murrayfield, we’re putting on more trains and extra carriages in and out of Edinburgh throughout the day. We’ll have extra staff on hand to help supporters travelling to the game, and home again after the final whistle.”
