ScotRail Services Stopped After Person Hit By Train Near Inverness

Rail services in the Highlands were disrupted after a fatal incident on the line, with emergency services responding to reports of a person struck by a train.

The incident occurred early on Friday morning, with the route between Nairn and Elgin closed shortly after 7.45am. Services operated by ScotRail were heavily affected, particularly on the Aberdeen to Inverness corridor, where trains were cancelled, delayed or revised.

Officers from the British Transport Police were called to the line near Inverness at around 7.30am following reports of a casualty on the tracks. They attended alongside paramedics and other emergency services.

Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service were also deployed to the scene. Despite their efforts, the individual was pronounced dead at the location.

The disruption was expected to continue until around midday, with significant impacts for passengers travelling between Aberdeen and Inverness during the morning period.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said:

"We were called to an area of the line in Inverness at around 7.30am today (April 10) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said:

"We received a call at 07.36am to attend an incident near Brodie. We dispatched one ambulance to the scene."
