South Western Railway (SWR) is releasing thousands of extra low-cost off-peak tickets to celebrate the return of its full West of England timetable later this month. The operator confirmed that the complete service between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids will resume on Saturday 29 November, following timetable reductions introduced over the summer.

From Monday 10 November, an additional 20,000 of SWR’s cheapest Advance fares will go on sale for journeys from London Waterloo and Clapham Junction to destinations west of, and including, Salisbury. The move is designed to thank passengers for their patience and encourage people back onto the route as normal services restart.

Discounted fares include off-peak tickets priced at £13 to Templecombe and Gillingham (Dorset), £14 to Yeovil, Sherborne and Crewkerne, and £15.30 to Axminster, Honiton and Exeter. Typically, customers would need to book months in advance to secure these prices, but SWR is making them available for short-notice travel during the promotional period.

Cheaper tickets are also being introduced for local journeys between Salisbury and Exeter, with up to a third off Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak, Evening Out and Sunday Out fares. A return ticket between Yeovil and Exeter, for instance, will drop to around £15.20, compared with the usual lowest fare of £23. Tickets are available now via SWR’s website.

Peter Williams, South Western Railway’s Customer and Commercial Director, said:

“We want to thank our customers for their patience since the amended timetable was introduced in August. To welcome customers back, we are pleased to offer a wide range of discounted fares on West of England line journeys. Our full timetable is set to be restored from Saturday 29 November, with discounted advance fares from this date until Wednesday 17 December, available to purchase now. We hope our customers enjoy everything the West of England has to offer as we approach the festive season.”
