Teen arrested on train at Letchworth as police swoop over drug offences

Police boarded a train at Letchworth Garden City railway station last Friday evening to arrest a teenager in connection with suspected drug offences, causing a brief delay to services.

Officers from the British Transport Police were called to the station shortly before 8pm on 17 April following reports that individuals linked to an earlier incident nearby were present at the location.

The operation led officers to board the 7.23pm service travelling from Cambridge to London King's Cross railway station, where the suspect was believed to be onboard. Rail operator Great Northern confirmed the train was held at Letchworth while police carried out their search.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said:

"A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and has since been bailed".

The incident resulted in the service being delayed by around 15 minutes. Thameslink apologised to affected passengers and confirmed that those delayed by 15 minutes or more would be eligible to claim compensation through its Delay Repay scheme, as well as via Great Northern.
