Tragedy at Sankey for Penketh as 17-year-old dies on tracks

A teenage boy has died after an incident on the railway near Warrington, prompting an emergency response late on Tuesday evening.

Police, paramedics and rail staff were called to Sankey for Penketh railway station at around 10.30pm on 21 April following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

The British Transport Police has since confirmed that the person who died was a 17-year-old boy. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers have launched an investigation into the circumstances leading up to the incident.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said:

“Officers were called to Sankey for Penketh railway station at 10.38pm on Tuesday, April 21, following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended; however, sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances leading up to their death.”
