Trains delayed after person hit by train near Nottingham crossing
Rail services in Nottinghamshire were disrupted on Tuesday after a person was struck by a train, prompting an emergency response and the closure of a nearby road.
The incident occurred shortly before 1pm on 21 April on the line between Nottingham railway station and routes towards Grantham and Newark Castle. Train operator East Midlands Railway confirmed the incident shortly after it was reported.
Emergency services were called to the scene, with Nottinghamshire Police also closing part of Colwick Road in Sneinton at a railway level crossing to allow officers to respond safely. Motorists were advised to avoid the area while the incident was dealt with.
East Midlands Railway said:
"We are sad to report that a person has been hit by a train. This has occurred between Nottingham and Grantham/Newark Castle."
Nottinghamshire Police said:
"We have closed a section of Colwick Road, Sneinton, Nottingham, while officers attend an incident. The road has been closed at the railway level crossing after we were called to the scene at 12.44pm today (21 April). We would urge people to avoid the area and apologise for any inconvenience."
The railway line reopened at around 2.10pm, although disruption continued as services gradually returned to normal. East Midlands Railway warned passengers that delays and cancellations were likely to persist while timetables were restored.
