West Midlands Rail Chaos After Major Wire Damage Near Longbridge

Rail passengers travelling south of Birmingham New Street are facing significant disruption after damage to overhead electric wires brought services to a standstill.

All lines between Birmingham New Street and Longbridge are currently blocked while the issue is addressed. Trains operating between Birmingham New Street and Redditch or Bromsgrove may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes, or revised as a result. Disruption is expected to continue until at least 18:30.

West Midlands Trains has confirmed that passengers can use their rail tickets at no additional cost on National Express West Midlands bus services between Birmingham New Street and Longbridge to help complete their journeys. Rail replacement transport has also been sourced and is expected to operate between Longbridge and Bromsgrove / Redditch from approximately 16:45.

Travellers are reminded that ticket acceptance and alternative travel arrangements can be withdrawn at short notice, and are advised to check with their chosen operator before setting off.
