Woman assaulted on Birmingham to Euston train as police appeal for witnesses
Detectives are appealing for witnesses following a reported sexual assault on a train travelling from Birmingham New Street railway station to London Euston railway station.
The incident is understood to have taken place at around 4.30pm on Wednesday 11 March while the service was between Northampton railway station and Wolverton railway station.
A man seated near the victim allegedly began making sexualised remarks towards her before going on to sexually assault her. As the situation escalated, the man refused to move, forcing the woman to attempt to climb over him in order to get away.
During her попытка to escape, he is reported to have assaulted her again, including grabbing hold of her skirt as she tried to leave.
Officers from British Transport Police met the train on arrival at Euston, where the suspect was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. He has since been released on bail while further enquiries continue.
Police are now urging anyone who was on board the train and may have witnessed the incident to come forward and assist the investigation.
The suspect is described as a white man, aged between 50 and 60, with a ginger beard. He is said to have tattoos on one hand and on his neck, and was wearing a dark T-shirt and a raincoat. He was also accompanied by a small black dog.
