Passengers travelling between Nottingham and Skegness over the next two weekends are being advised to check their journeys as Network Rail carries out a £2 million track upgrade in Lincolnshire. The work will affect services on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November, and again on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 December, with rail replacement buses running between Sleaford and Boston.

The project involves the installation of 2.4km (1.5 miles) of new track at Boardsides near Boston, along with more than 3,800 sleepers and 4,200 tonnes of ballast, designed to provide smoother and more reliable journeys for passengers. The upgrade forms part of ongoing investment to maintain the safety and efficiency of the railway.

Dan Matthews, Network Rail operations director, said:

“We’re investing £2 million to renew the track near Boston, which will make journeys smoother and more reliable for passengers. This work is essential to keep the railway safe and efficient for years to come. We appreciate people’s patience while we carry out these improvements and advise passengers to check before they travel.”

Philippa Cresswell, Customer Experience Director for East Midlands Railway, added:

“We recommend customers planning to travel to Skegness over the next two weekends (29 and 30 November or 6 and 7 December) to check their journey in advance as there will be an amended timetable in place, with trains running between Nottingham and Sleaford and between Boston and Skegness. There will be a connecting rail replacement bus service running between Sleaford and Boston, calling at Heckington. This work by Network Rail will help improve the reliability of our services in the long term, and we’d like to thank our customers for their patience while it takes place.”
